The Catholic claim is simple:
Jesus Christ founded His Church. He commissioned the apostles, made Simon Peter the Rock, gave Peter the keys of the Kingdom, and promised that the gates of Hades would not prevail against His Church. Peter and Paul later gave the Church at Rome its apostolic foundation, and that ministry continued through apostolic succession.
